The Chinese New Year calendar is based on the lunar new year, which marks the start of a new moon. The Eunyul Talchum and Bukcheong Saja Noreums, both recognized as National Intangible Cultural Properties of Korea, are rooted in a folk belief that lions have the power to turn away evil spirits and bring peace. The Chinese New Year in 2021 falls on February 12. Lunar New Year is also sometimes celebrated with talchum (Korea traditional mask dances), as depicted in today's Doodle artwork.
